Campus UPC Vilanova
The UPC Campus in Vilanova i la Geltrú has been offering engineering studies for over 100 years. In fact, the city’s first School of Trades, the forerunner of the current Polytechnic School of Engineering in Vilanova i la Geltrú, was established even before the UPC itself. Over this century, the School has renewed and modernized itself at the same pace as engineering has evolved. As a public educational institution, there are several key factors to consider:
Leading the Future
UPC Vilanova Campus was the first public university center in Catalonia to offer Technical Telecommunications Engineering studies, and more recently, it has also pioneered the introduction of the Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design and Product Development in the country. Additionally, students can complete paid internships with prominent companies in the engineering sector as part of their training.
An Internationally-Oriented Campus
Since February 2008, the School has also included the European Project Semester (EPS) in its educational offerings. This project-based learning system, aligned with the European Higher Education Area, allows students to study in English and collaborate with peers of various nationalities. The program’s success led to the launch of the International Design Project Semester (IDPS) in the 2011-2012 academic year, which shares the same structure as EPS but focuses on industrial design. These programs are complemented by international mobility agreements with about fifteen European universities.
Cutting-Edge Research in Garraf
Beyond academics, the UPC Campus in Vilanova i la Geltrú boasts the Vilanova i la Geltrú Technology Center and Neàpolis, two hubs promoting industrial innovation and channeling research, development, and technology transfer activities at the School. The campus hosts 11 research groups, including SARTI, LAB, CRAAX, CDAL, CETpD, INSIDE, SEPIC, GAECEOS, AMPC, TN, and CATAC.
Open to the Community
The campus has the city’s largest library, where students can access resources to enhance their learning. To support students from outside the Garraf region, the campus offers a university residence (with reprography services, an optician, and a computer store).
Committed to Improving the Environment
The campus is dedicated to sustainability, environmental awareness, and equal opportunities. The UPC’s Accessibility Chair is headquartered at the UPC Vilanova Campus. All of this makes the UPC Campus in Vilanova i la Geltrú a well-prepared university reference for training tomorrow’s engineers.
